CARE FOR TODAY. HOPE FOR TOMORROW.
Care for today is accomplished, in part, through ministry teams and partners who serve with us year round. The staff stands “back to back” with directors and caregivers who serve daily in the children’s homes and with single mothers and vulnerable children living in marginalized communities. Volunteers from local churches and visiting teams from partnered churches engage year round, coming alongside them with physical, financial and human resources, encouragement, prayer, and training.Hope for tomorrow is accomplished through an unwavering focus on the sustainability and development of the orphan and vulnerable child. We desire each child to be dependent on Jesus Christ, interdependent in his or her community and independent and sustainable in adulthood.
Since 1997, Back2Back has realized the importance of investing on a deeper level in the lives of children. Simply providing for a child’s physical needs isn’t enough.
By providing holistic care, rather than merely meeting immediate external needs, we can truly help children to experience complete restoration. With that in mind, the Back2Back 5-Point Child Development Plan was created, an approach to orphan care ministry that addresses five crucial areas of child development.
Our Core Values for Holistic Orphan Care
- We value healthy Galatians 6 relationships with our ministry partners and children. Galatians 6:2 “Carry each others burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ” Galatians 6:5 “For each one should carry his own load.” In Greek, “burden” is explained as something someone is incapable of carrying himself while a “load” refers to a soldier’s backpack that he was expected to carry himself. We want to empower our ministry partners and the children we serve to carry their own “loads” and come alongside them to help carry their “burdens.”
- We value what is best for the child above all else. Out of this came the Child Development Model. This provides a filter from which we evaluate the resources and activities provided for the children ensuring that they serve to meet their spiritual, physical, educational, emotional and social needs.
- We value education and training of dependency related issues. We do not want to be the hero to these kids. We want to communicate that God is the hero and He is using us to fulfill His will.
- We value relationships above all. More than any tangible gift, we want to communicate that giving ourselves to the children we serve is paramount. We want to model for the children and ministry partners our image as restored beings in Christ. We want to share with them that the hope of the gospel is that they don’t have to be victims of their circumstances, but that they can receive full restoration in the here and now. We are all “orphans”, but when we receive Christ we become adopted into Christ’s eternal kingdom where we are joint heirs with Him.
